With so many design events going on throughout the city, from tradeshows to design weeks, it can be a tough decision on which to attend. So, to help you decide, we’ve fished out the best of the bunch to ensure you don’t miss out on any the artistic buzz. Whether you’re interior and architectural photographers like us, involved within the creative industry or just fancy coming along, here is a list of the upcoming London design events to update your calendar for 2019.



Grand Designs Live London 2019

Grand Designs live returns once more to London’s ExCel. Hosted by presenter, Kevin McCloud, this event offers visitors the opportunity to view the latest and upcoming interior and architectural design trends for the home along with receiving expert advice from industry professionals. This full-day event will bring lots of exciting things to see, from the display of the ‘Under the Stairs project,’ to visitors being able to witness a live build from Studio Bark. There will also be a helpful Q&A panel discussion from leading experts discussing all things from budgeting to planning. So, if you’re planning your own Grand Design, why not head down to receive some top advice and be inspired by the very best.


London Craft Week

London Craft Week allows visitors to celebrate exceptional craftsmanship by taking part in a whole host of events over London. Demonstrations, seminars, and interviews along with hands-on craft workshops are available to all. This year visitors have been given the opportunity to design their very own wallpaper with Allyson McDermott from the William Morris Society. Allyson McDermott will host a talk about the history of wallpaper where participants will be able to see original examples of the William Morris collection. Visitors are then invited to design and print their very own wallpaper sample which they can take home. A tour of the recently restored Arts & Crafts interior will then be provided which showcases a William Morris wallpaper conservation. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone looking to unleash their inner artist.


Clerkenwell Design Week

In Clerkenwell, more creative businesses and architects can be found per square mile than anywhere else in the world, making it one of the most important design locations to date. To celebrate this creative community, Clerkenwell Design week brings to London a selection of UK and international industry leading experts to present new design projects and street displays, especially for the festival visitors. The aim of the week is to inspire through design and push the boundaries in terms of procedures, concepts, and material abilities. This year guide your way throughout the city to the different architectural displays by candle-like beacons designed to celebrate the 10th edition of the festival. Why not also visit this year’s winning exhibition which reflects on the history and heritage of Clerkenwell through a structural form inspired by St Johns Gate Arch. The structure then also reflects on the current design culture of Clerkenwell by including materials and geometries popular to today. Remember to bring your camera, as from experience these amazing displays are hard to resist photographing!



London Festival of Architecture

 The London Festival of Architecture presents an exciting package of events and activities for London. Spread across London bridge, the Royal Docks, St James’s, Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, the event will welcome visitors with a 400- event strong program. With walking city tours, views of interesting architectural installations; lively debates to Studio Lates, exhibitions and many more things to see; there’s something for everyone. In 2018, designer Yinka Ilori won a competition to redesign the gloomy underpass of the Thessaly Road railway bridge. This year, his design ‘Happy Street’ will be revealed. He aimed to design a welcoming space for pedestrians and cyclists by using colourful enamel-powder-coated panels along the dark stained walls, to create an inviting space which is both durable and attractive. As Architectural photographers, we can’t wait to take some great shots of this one. So why not pop down to see the big reveal, we think this will be an incredible transformation!



London Design Fair

London Design fair, located in the heart of East London, returns once more with an exciting four-day event. The fair brings together 29,000 influential designers and brands, architects, interior designers, press and design lovers to witness the latest trends in furniture, materials, textiles, lighting, and installations from around the world. This year join ELLE Decoration UK to view their new exhibition of today’s world-leading bathroom brands. The exhibition has been designed by architect, Ioana Lupascu, to allow brands to transform a 20-square-meter space with the choice of six options of freestanding wall configurations in a selection of colours by Calzada Fox. The Bathroom Gallery is to showcase the brands and products which are shaping our bathrooms today.
